What is Kids in Charge?

It’s fun. It’s  bell ringing for the Kids and it takes place mainly on the first Saturday of each month.

We usually ring at the Harry Windsor Ringing Centre at St Peters Kineton, but also visit other towers. The emphasis is ringing with our friends and not with the wrinklies!

We go ten pin bowling, we have barbecues and picnics in the summer – we have fun . . .

If you want to come along email Fiona via the contact tab at the top of this page.   :-)

Not being satisfied with Ice Skating in December 23 members of the Kids In Charge group held their new year get together and Party on the 2nd January.

Firstly a ring and a ‘grab’ for most on the lovely eight at Harbury and then on to Offchurch – a more challenging six for them.  They accredited themselves very well here but soon the attraction of food, drink and party time saw them crossing the road  to the Village Hall where Fiona Dyson, Kate Innocent and Hazel Taylor were organising food & drink.

Fun and somewhat energetic games run by Catherine Jamison then ensued with such enthusiasm that the food took a very long time to be eaten.

Over the year they have met monthly mainly at Kineton but also at other towers and the group has expended. Many have rung their first Quarters too.  A programme involving tower visits BBQ and a competition is in place for the first half of 2012.   GN

KiC Christmas OutingKiC Christmas Outing 2011

15 young ringers from all corners of the Guild descended on Coventry on Saturday 3 December for ringing and skating.

We started our Christmas outing at All Saints Allesley (mind your head as you go up the steps!). Everyone had a turn at rounds and call changes and then plain hunting. With Nadeem on the tenor and Emily on the treble there were enough parents to form a band for Bob Triples, a first for a KiC meeting!

On to the Skydome where boots were donned in double quick time and it was on to the ice. In no time at all our young ringers progressed from white knuckles clutching the sides to flailing arms in the middle. All to the amusement of the onlookers. A break for lunch (ringers are always hungry aren’t they?), of hot dogs and ‘best ever’ chips – what a recommendation! The adults kept warm with coffees & hot chocolates. Friendships were formed and it was lovely to see our ringers helping each other in the tricky business of staying upright.

Thank you to Lorna, Samantha, Zoe, Chris, Nadeem, Cameron, Becki, Alice, Tommy, Ian, Estella, Emily, Matthew, Luke and Sandy for coming on our Christmas outing and contributing in your inimitable style to such a fun morning.

Ringer of the day = Emily who trebled brilliantly to Bob Triples

Skater of the day = Becki, we love your style

Casualty of the day = Cameron, luckily nothing broken

Kids in Charge outing to Rugby area on Saturday 7 May 2011.

We set off in the rain and fought the traffic in the centre of Rugby. Found St Andrews – easy to spot because we knew it had 2 towers – yes, let’s get the car parked.

We went up the 5 bell tower first. More and more ringers kept arriving until we were 14 young ringers and 11 adults – all managed to find a space in the tower room. We achieved plenty of plain hunting on 5 and lots of rounds and call changes. Then came the mystery of the missing ipod. One member, hmm now who was it, couldn’t find his ipod as we moved from the 5 bell to the 8 bell tower. Great consternation, where could it be. Everyone looked in their bags, had they picked it up by mistake? On arrival in the 8 bell tower the missing ipod was found in his other pocket! Sighs of relief all round, now we could concentrate on ringing.

We rang rounds and call changes with all 8 being rung by KIC members, some needing two boxes to ring the 25 Cwt tenor (what is that in kilos??). Record cards for Sherbourne teaching aids were updated and badges awarded. We then fought the traffic again and were glad to reach Clifton upon Dunsmore, home tower of many of the KiC ringers. Coffee and biscuits on arrival – we’ll come here again!

Best of all it had stopped raining for the picnic in Robin Guy’s amazing garden. Mountains of sandwiches and cake were demolished before many rounds of hide and seek were played. We thank everyone who made the cakes and thank you Catherine for organising the morning and the lunch and a big thank you to her father who allowed us to let off steam in his garden.  A few of the enthusiastic ones then went on to grab other towers on a nearby tour and open day.

Thank you Tim, Cameron, Lorna, William, Harvey, Sandy, Alexander, Becki, Alice, Tommy, Nadeem, Estella, Ian and Simon for coming and for doing us proud with the ringing.
